Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary supports many internship and fellowship programs in support of research, education, and resource protection.


California Sea Grant Fellowship


California State University COAST Summer Student Internship Program

California State University's Council on Ocean Affairs, Science and Technology (COAST) partners with federal and state agencies, non-profit organizations and industry to provide paid summer internships for continuing California State University undergraduate and graduate students. Interns work side-by-side with professionals on current scientific research, policy, and resource management projects throughout California. The program provides excellent opportunities to gain valuable experience and learn technical skills while working with experts in fisheries, marine ecology, policy, and marine technology.

Dr. Nancy Foster Scholarship Program

The Dr. Nancy Foster Scholarship Program recognizes outstanding scholarship and encourages independent graduate level research particularly by female and minority students in NOAA mission-related sciences of oceanography, marine biology, and maritime archaeology, including all science, engineering, and resource management of ocean and coastal areas.

Ernest F. Hollings Scholarship Program

The Hollings Scholarship Program provides successful undergraduate applicants with awards that include academic assistance (up to $9,500 per year) for two years of full-time study and a 10-week, full-time paid internship during the summer at a NOAA facility.

Important dates: Applications are available annually from September through January.
